Jackson and Phillips are a local independent MOT Station and garage, operating since 1971, we have built an outstanding, honest reputation locally and always carry out a fair and professional test.

Using tried and tested equipment which is regularly calibrated, we can test cars and light vans (class 4), large vans (class 7), Motorhomes and are one of the few local stations that can test minibuses (class 5).

You are welcome to come and view the test from our viewing area, or wait in our warm, comfortable reception area with complimentary hot drinks and WIFI. To make things easier for you your car can be dropped off and left with us, we can collect and deliver your car locally from home or work.

Why do I need an MOT?

In the UK, an MOT is a legal requirement for any motorised road vehicle over 3 years old (4 years old in Northern Ireland).

What type of safety issues does an MOT check?

Your MOT will cover a wide range of safety aspects of your vehicle, such as:

Steering and Suspension – Checking for corrosion and general condition, whether they’re in working order and fluid levels are correct

Tyres – To ensure the tread is at the legal depth, that the tyres aren’t damaged and that they’re the correct tyres for the vehicle.

Brakes – A check to ensure your brakes are in good working order, that they haven’t been modified and that brake fluid levels are correct.

Seatbelts – This is to check all your seatbelts work, that they’re not damaged and that they’re the correct type of seatbelt for the vehicle.

At Jackson & Phillips, we provide MOT’s in classes 4 and 5, and are one of the few local garages to offer Class 7 MOT’s.

Class 1 MOT – Although not available at Jackson & Phillips, a Class 1 MOT covers mopeds and small motorcycles up to 200cc.

Class 2 MOT – Also not available at Jackson & Phillips, a Class 2 MOT covers larger motorcycles over 200cc.

Class 3 MOT – A Class 3 MOT is for 3-wheeled vehicles, including motorcycle sidecars, and is also not available at Jackson & Phillips.

Class 4 MOT – A Class 4 MOT is the standard MOT available at Jackson & Phillips, for cars, light vans and other passenger vehicles with up to 8 seats.

Class 5 MOT – Also available at Jackson & Phillips, a Class 5 MOT covers private passenger vehicles, such as ambulances, and motorhomes.

Class 7 MOT – A Class 7 MOT covers larger passenger vehicles such as minibuses and motorhomes.
